As we reflect on ‘why’ in Hanoi, and why now? We cannot by emphasize that Asian are a fanatically passionate bunch of people when it comes to food, and the accompanying drink. No less so Vietnam – steeped in culture, with a culinary heritage spanning centuries before the written word. Vietnam – steep in culture with a culinary heritage infused with Sino-Franco elements over the last century - offering the traveler, and the lucky local food aficionado the daily indigenous cook-fest of a thousand tastes, from her famous street cuisine to experiential elitist gastronomic dining. It is in Vietnam that ‘fusion’ originated, before Michelin editorials and before Anthony Bourdain. Vietnam epitomizes the zenith in modern day east-west and traditional-experimental culinary melding.

The inaugural Food & Hotel Hanoi 2018 offers robustly modernizing Hanoi her surrounding precincts a trading and buyer’s market place, from 28 – 30 November, 2018 at the modest International Center of Exhibition (I.C.E) Hanoi, Vietnam. It is envisioned that this event becomes a beacon for the best food producers and suppliers, the best hospitality solutions provider to reach this region and also, as a conduit for cross border industry trade.

Food & Hotel Hanoi 2018 – An event the industry is waiting for

Spanning a completely sold out exhibition hall, which is spilling into extension facilities,  Food & Hotel Hanoi 2018 features diverse exhibit categories such as Food, Drinks & Beverages; Dairy Products; Meat & Poultry, Bakery & Confectionery Equipment; Bar, Coffee & Beverage Equipment; Foodservice & Catering Equipment; Cleaning and Washing Equipment; and many more. The inaugural event proudly welcomes 111 exhibiting companies, many of them our loyal customers, from 13 countries and regions – including 6 international group pavilions of Taiwan, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Italy and the United States of America. It is a grand achievement to have such an international representation at this inaugural event.

Industry buyers, caterers and kitchen professionals will be greeted by a large international food, drink and equipment product showcase plus educational and training sessions hosted by local and international industry organizations. Many stalwart industry players have confirmed their participation, including Annam, New Viet Dairy, U.S. Dairy Export Council Vietnam, Procacuno, Interporc, Hoshizaki, Charles Wembley, GoodFood Hanoi, Ha Yen, Cubes Asia Co., LTD amongst many others.

Competitions, training and experiential sharing

More than a product showcase, the event will also host concurrent educational programs and industry competitions attract attendance from a hundred of chefs and bartenders, with evaluation of prestigious international examiners. The Vietnam Barista Competition Hanoi (VBC Hanoi) and the newly launched Hanoi Salon Culinaire (HSC) – a spinoff from the Vietnam National Culinary Competition, will feature at this year’s Food & Hotel Hanoi. Besides, there are two helpful workshops simultaneously organized: “Barista Workshop” and “Gelato Workshop” with the short term training about coffee-making and gelato-making skills. These events are well supported by their respective industry associations and regional peer councils.

Two our loyal partners are VINALAB and MESLAB will continually host the technical seminars, with the topics about food safety and services in restaurants and hotels supported by professional speakers.

“Back to the why and when, the most compelling reason for the launch of Food & Hotel Hanoi 2018 was obviously the robust support for the event during our preliminary discussions with industry stakeholders globally over the course of many months. The demand was there. There were recently so many new hotel developments in the north of Vietnam but we oddly enough did not see sufficient customers from the north visiting Food&HotelVietnam2017 in Ho Chi Minh - the 9th edition last year. We thus felt we needed to at least ‘have a go’ being the serial entrepreneurs that we are. So here we are! The genes hath spoken! We went with industry support and behold, it wasn’t such a bad idea after all, based on the amount of exhibitor inquiries we continue to receive till today.

So, we now have to deliver the buyers, which, we are confident of achieving for this inaugural event, thanks to the loyal support of all stake holders and in particular, the chefs, baristas and hotel association without which our current efforts will pale in comparison. Event schedule was another consideration as the Food and Hotel Vietnam event in Ho Chi Minh had difficulties attracting buyers from the central region due to a schedule clash. By offering buyers in Danang and its surrounding region an alternative date, we hope we will see more of our friends from the central region visit our event in Hanoi.
