In 2022: Hanoi welcomes 18.7 million visitors

In 2022, Hanoi tourism welcomed 18.7 million visitors. This is the result of the policy of opening up, and restoring tourism activities after the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the open-door policy, tourism activities will be restored including international and domestic tourism. From March 15th, 2022, Hanoi tourism has started to welcome international tourists, domestic tourists have grown strongly. It is estimated that in 2022, the total number of tourists to Hanoi will reach 18.7 million, an increase of 1.87 times compared to the plan and 4.7 times compared to 2021, equal to 64.7% of the number of visitors in 2019.

In which, international tourists are estimated at 1.5 million arrivals, reaching the planned target and equaling 21.4% of the number of international visitors to Hanoi in 2019; Domestic tourists are estimated to reach 17.2 million arrivals, an increase of 2.15 times compared to the Plan and 4.3 times compared to 2021, equaling 78.5% of the number of domestic tourists in 2019.

International tourists to Hanoi in 2022 are estimated at 1.5 million

Total revenue from tourists is estimated at over VND 60 trillion, an increase of 1.68 times compared to the Plan and 5.3 times compared to 2021 and equal to 57.8% of total revenue from tourists in 2019.

Ms. Dang Huong Giang – Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism said that in 2022, Hanoi will continue to be highly appreciated by prestigious travel websites and magazines for its tourism attractiveness. Travel website – TripAdvisor has ranked Hanoi city 22nd in the list of top 25 destinations for food lovers in 2022.

The German travel website Travelbook.de rates Hanoi as one of the most favorite destinations in Southeast Asia. The Google Destination Insights travel analysis tool page ranks Hanoi as one of the cities most searched for by international visitors.

Iceland Airlines (Icelandair) ranked Hanoi 9th in the ranking of the world’s top 10 cities to discover culture, cuisine, and healthcare… Especially, Hanoi is honored to be World Travel Awards (WTA) voted as World’s Leading City Break Destination 2022 – World’s Leading City Break Destination 2022.

Also according to Ms. Dang Huong Giang, in 2023, the capital’s tourism industry will create a comprehensive growth in both the scale and quality of services, the number and quality of tourists to ensure sustainability. The industry continues to implement solutions for Hanoi tourism to truly recover and develop, maintaining its role as a major tourist center of the country; at the same time, continue to build the image of the capital’s tourism as a safe and attractive destination.

In 2023, the city strives to welcome about 22 million tourists, an increase of 17.6% compared to 2022; in which 3 million international visitors and 19 million domestic tourists. Total revenue from tourists reached about VND 77 trillion, which will increase 28.2%.
